"Kon-Tiki” means literary “SUN GOD”. Kon-Tiki is the name of a raft, build in 1947 built in the spring of 1947 by the Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl. He left the coast of Peru, determined to reach the islands of French Polynesia by sea, without oars, without motor, using only sea current flows, trade winds and good luck: 101 days in the open sea, with 5 travel companions (4 Norwegians, 1 Swedish) and a parrot, that had never sailed before. Thor set out to prove that 1,000 years earlier the same journey could have been undertaken by primitive people escaping from Incas. He wanted to demonstrate that Indigenous from South America were able to cross the Pacific Ocean 500 years before Magellano, proving that from the very beginning of civilization men face the open sea, moved by thirst for knowledge or the hope of a better life. The journey considered not only as a displacement but as discovery, research, escape. Migration considered not only as an emergency but the distinctive character of every civilization since the beginning of humanity.

The choice to involve in this project Marcelo Sola has been decisive. The challenge was not to rely on a professional actor but on a real teacher of mathematics and physics that, after 20 years of teaching at the University of San Paulo in Brazil, he could “dress” the character with a special spontaneity and a truth. But this choice had another deeper meaning: he is son of immigrants, being his grandfather born in Italy and migrated from Calabria in the early '900 to Brazil in search of fortune. 100 years later, Marcelo made the reverse journey, leaving Brazil to come back in Italy for a new life and a new job, in the theatre field.
